The Virginia program has done a tremendous job of winning games, playing elite team defense, and developing guards with high basketball IQs over the past few seasons. While last year didn’t exactly go as planned for Head Coach Tony Bennett, who recently finished his 14th year. He went 25-8 overall but had a disappointing loss in the first round to Furman in the tournament. They have graduated their top three scorers from last year but had an a terrific 2023 recruiting class and their 2024 group is already off to a great start with the addition of 6’4” PG Christian Bliss (George School, PA ’24).

Bliss is an NYC native we have been extremely high on for some time even with his move to play in Pennsylvania. He always plays with great poise, never gets rattled, has a unique pace that creates problems for defenders, and he is a winner. His IQ is off the charts, very consistent shooter, creates for others and is an assassin in the pick and the roll. The range is there, he has elite decision making skills. Bliss should benefit a ton from a college workout program, and we still see room for growth in his game.

When June 3rd hit Bliss decided to announce he was trimming his massive list of offers down to just four which included Xavier, UVA, Villanova, and Miami. These programs all presented huge opportunities for the young floor general, and we honestly loved the fit for each team on his list. A key visit to UVA just five days ago seem to make all the difference as Bennett and his staff were able to seal the deal. Bliss is the first recruit the Cavaliers have gotten a commitment from in 2024 but they have some other big targets they would like to join him. We think UVA is perfect, they will take his game to an even higher level and don’t be surprised if he wins that point guard job early in his career.
