Tri-State Classic Thrillers

HARLEM, NY - On Sunday, there were two games in the Tri-State Classic high school division. Both games were competitive with the finale ending in a double overtime thriller. NYCHoops.net was on hand and caught all the action.

NY Lions beach Ocean's Eleven, 68-49
Ocean's Eleven appeared to be on their way to washing the Lions out to sea as Patrick Downer ( put his squad up 21-13 to begin the second quarter.
The lead would change hands in the second quarter as the Lions stepped up the intensity on both ends, opening up with a 9-1 run. Oceans 11 would only manage to only score 7 points in the entire quarter.
Ryan Boyd, a rising senior at Half Hollow Hills West, would pour in 15 first half points for the Lions leaving Ocean's Eleven in a 36-28 halftime hole.
Ocean's Eleven tried to reduce the deficit but baskets by Emile Blackman and Boyd would push the Lions lead to 19 point to start the fourth quarter. A lead that would hold throughout the remainder of the game.
Boyd scored a game high 27 points while Downer led Ocean's Eleven with 14 points.
Harlem Children Zone Tops T-2/Milbank in 2OT, 84-75
The Harlem Children's Zone seemed to be playing catch-up for the entire game and into the first overtime. Down 18-10 to start the second quarter, 6'8" Neville Fincher (Teaneck HS) loomed large as he slammed home an authoritative dunk.
Basil Harley (Wadleigh) kept Milbank's lead from getting out of hand but HCZ still trailed 33-26 at the half.
In the third quarter, HCZ got additional offense from Shavar Newkirk and tied the game at 41 but Shamgod Wells and Nick King sparked a 4-0 Milbank run to close the third quarter still holding on to a 4 point lead.
Harley would pilfer the rock to start the fourth and with 5:44 the game would be knotted again at 45 and again at 52. As the clock ticked, both teams got to the free-throw line and both teams would be pure but with 12 seconds left in regulation, Wells would put Milbank up 59-56.
Sharpshooter Louis Costen (Wadleigh) would come up big, draining three ball from the right of the key at the buzzer to take the game into first overtime. In a replay of the first OT, Costen would again net at trey from the top of the key, forcing a second overtime.
In the second overtime, the Harlem Children's Zone surged ahead for the win with a strong finish from 6'6" Ohndo Smith (Westside HS).
Harley ended the day with 25 pts and Wells and King led Milbank with 15 points apiece.
