The Mt. Vernon Dynasty Continues
On Sunday, there was a high noon show down with the Section I Class AA coveted title on the line. The No. 1 Mount Vernon Knights brought home their 7th Section I title and 29th championship win in program history over the No. 3 Mahopac Indians, 77-51.

The Knights would dominate the opening quarter by keeping Mahopac on the ropes and at the end of the quarter the score was 21-7. The flow of the game remained the same into the second quarter. Jarrel Marshal made a layup and Mahopac's Anthony Lenahan answered back with two making the score 38-19.
As the minutes ticked down, Marshal would score an and one basket to boost the Knights to a 40-19 lead.
In the opening of the third quarter, Quadere Lovell hit an open three pointer which helped build on the Knights momentum. Isaiah Cousins followed up with a jumper to make the score 49-21.
Randy Stevens came alive in the quarter for the Knights and scored a layup to stretch the lead out to thirty points.
Brendan Hynes answered back for the Indians but Cousins responded scoring, back-to-back.
Late in the quarter, Stevens scored on a drive followed by a nice pass to Marshal for two more off the glass, making the score 59-23 to close out the third quarter.
With the fourth quarter under way, the writing was already on the wall. Mahopac was never able to come close and the Knights put one more in the books for Section I. As time wound down there was nothing left to but stand around, waiting to hoist yet another gold ball.
Cousins was named MVP of the game, finishing with 11 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Stevens added 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Hynes led Mahopac with 12 points and Zack Ankier contributed 7 points.
In attendance for the game were Xavier, Dayton, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, South Carolina and St Peter's.
Mount Vernon head Coach Bob Cimmino would tweet later, "Isaiah Cousins had a good day and he was offered scholarships by South Carolina, Xavier, and Oklahoma."
The Knights journey will continue as they seek the NY State and Federation NYS repeat.
