The iS8/Nike Tip-Off Fall Championships are today and the stage is set. Two powerhouse teams set for a collision course.
Usually in the iS8 there is an upset on the way to the championship so we never get to see the Cinderella Match-up but this time is an exception. Facing off are two teams that are the high school equivalent to NBA dream teams.
Here is a breakdown of the match-ups:
PLAYAZ CLUB-SRS.
How they got here:
Defeated Team Odom in the quarterfinals (81 – 79) and then beat the Connecticut Basketball Club in the semifinals (109 – 94)
Key Players:
Keys to victory:
Keeping the ball out of Erving Walker's hands; High field goal percentage from the outside; Limit Samardo Samuels touches.
Advantages:
Three of the starting five play for St. Anthony's and play aggressive and well together.
Disadvantages:
Size
SHOOTING STARS
How they got here:
Defeated the NY Gauchos in the quarterfinals (95 – 86) and Boy's & Girl's (86 – 85)
Key Players:
Keys to Victory:
Go to their strength which is Samardo Samuels. No one can stop him down low; Play above the rim; Get Gaston &/or Cheney in full trouble.
Advantages:
They are stacked with size and a strong bench (Tyshawn Taylor, Quintrell Thomas, Dwan McMillan & A.J. Rogers)
Disadvantages:
Can get lazy on defense and tend to let team back into games late. They almost lost to Boy's & Girl's which is primarily players from the same team and proved that they are human afterall. They can be beat.
Key match-up:
Fontan vs. Walker. Similar styles. Both are lightning quick, hard to press, can shoot and can pass.
