NYCHoops.net witnessed some interesting games that featured New York teams as well as some of the top performances of the day.
Paschall & The City leave scuff marks on Texas Tarheels, 67-53
The recently merged Brooklyn Badgers/The City faced off against the Texas Tarheels and for the majority of the game, it was a toe to toe 17U match-up. The City led by only two points at the half
The Tarheels undeterred would tie the game at 30, early in the second half and pulled ahead by ten points off a 12-0 run after trailing in for the entire first half. The City would bounce back and eventually tie the game again at 46 apiece with 6:30 left to play.
It appeared as if the game would end in a photo finish at the buzzer - that is until Eric Paschall raised his game to a Division I level. The Fordham commit led The City to an impressive 13 point win with an assortment of poetic perimeter shots for a game high 27 points.
Positive Direction tops the NY Panthers, 86-81
The Positive Direction Royals had been talking about this game for the past two weeks according to former Royal and recent graduate, Dondre' Jackson who came to root his team on.
It would be high drama throughout as both 16U New York City teams wanted to push the pace and while the Panthers mounted a formidable attack, the Royals seemed able to stay a step ahead. Mostly due to quality production from guard Dimitri Joseph (20 points) from Beacon Prep (TX) and 6'1" Ramel Powers (16 points) who attends Campus Magnet HS. The Panthers were led by point guard Desure Buie with 16 points.
