Team Frenji Wins C.Y.P. Championship

PORTCHESTER, NY - On Sunday, night it was standing room only as the locals packed the tiny gym of C.Y.P. at Lady of Mercy Church. A loaded Team Frenji squad faced off against a tough blue collar NY Falcons. Both teams battled vigorously until contest came to a steaming close. Decided by few free throws, Frenji who took home the win, 76-75.
From the open quarter, Jordan Tucker (17 points), the game's MVP, made it a five point game. The Falcon's still led 14-9. Falcon's Tyler Sullivan from Ridgewood HS answered back pushing the Falcon team ahead scoring a teardrop basket. The Falcon's close the quarter ahead, 20-14.

At the start of the second quarter Falcon's Conor McGuinness from Clarktown South made a three point basket. Frenji's Matt Ryan answers back with two, the Falcon remain up 23-17. Falcon's Justin Rivera follows up with a basket. But Frenji's Tom Capuano hits a three at the top of the key making it a five point game, 25-20 Falcon's still lead.
Frenji's Jeff Haden finally knotted the score on a drive at 27points with 2:49 remaining in the quarter. Falcon Shakur Juiston from Eastside HS then scored a basket off an inbound pass from Sullivan, 29-27 Falcons.
The score knotted two more times in the final minutes of the quarter. Frenji's Kylan Guerra from Stepinac HS handed off a nice feed to Ian Gardner from St Thomas Moore for a one hand jam that electrify the crowd, 37-31 as Frenji took the lead.
After a foul call on Rivera, Hayden stepped up to the line to score a basket and close the half, 38-31.
With two minutes remaining in the third quarter Juiston hits a three-pointer making it a 12 point game, Frenji leads still, 59-47. Tucker follows up with a knock down jumper increasing Frenji's score by three, 62-47. Falcon's Jordan Duncan from Spring Valley HS makes a three off the corner and Rivera would follow up with two at the buzzer, Frenji lead 65-54.
In the final quarter of the game the announcer yell what a game as the excitement intensified. With 13:3 seconds remaining Rivera goes to the line to capture the lead for the Falcon's, 75-73. A timeout is called but on the return technical foul is called on the Falcons sending sharp shooter Guerra to the line to knot the score at 75points with 5:3 seconds remain in the game. The Falcons called for another timeout Guerra returns to the line and hits one capturing the lead for Frenji, 76-75. The Falcons would make one last ditch effort in the final seconds of the game but the shot did not fall.
