The founder of this basketball smart program is Benjamin Carter, "Life skills and basketball skills are our goal, more importantly we focus on building players with good character. That is why many of our older players when called on will return to help mentor the younger ones." Frenji's practice facility is at the Theodore D. Young Community Center in Greenburg, NY.
This past Tuesday, Team Frenji had a guest speaker, St. John's assistant Coach Fred Quartlebaum. Coach Q spoke with the younger players about the importance of building a good basketball foundation.
While at the open practice NYCHoops learned that in June team Frenji plans to host an All-Star event, the Frankie Williams Charity. For over twenty years, Frankie Williams tirelessly coached and mentored the youth before his passing.
In 1998, he joined forces with Frenji and trained players from 3rd grade through college. His main goal was to turn student athletes into Division 1 prospects in basketball and football as well as respected citizens of the community. The program also provides educational services with certified educators that assist students of the game in mastering the SAT, PSAT, and ACT.
