Sunday Afternoon Action in S. Jamaica
NYCHoops.net was present to check some afternoon games at the iS8/Nike.
On the Sunday afternoon menu, we featured some of the competitive teams fighting for playoff spots that don't receive as much shine as the 4-0 powerhouses. Here are the recaps of two such games.

Lehigh Valley Elite K.O. Rising Stars, 66-49
The first game we checked out was between, the Rising Stars (0-2) and the Lehigh Valley Elite (1-2). Both teams needed to win an outside hope of a playoff birth.
The Rising Stars, a Long Island based team is led by Holy Cross star, Evan Conti. After a strong showing out the box and a half time lead, the L.V. Elite from Pennsylvania came back strong to lead by 5 points going into the fourth quarter.
Stepping up big for the Rising Stars was 6-foot-4 senior, Hart Gliedman, from L.I. Lutheran HS as they cut the L.V. Elite lead to 4 points midway through the fourth. Unfortunately for the Rising Stars, stepping up even bigger was Andrew Morgan and Derrick Hunter as L.V. Elite pushed lead back to 10, ultimately securing the win.
Morgan from St. Joes HS in Metuchen, NJ led Lehigh Valley with 15 points followed by Hunter from University HS Newark, NJ with 12 points. Gliedman was Rising Stars leader with 11 points with Conti adding 10 points.
Brooklyn Ballers Thump Next Level, 63-42
In the final game of the day, a win-less Next Level (0-3) sought to play spoiler against the Brooklyn Ballers (3-1), who were in a must win situation to make the playoffs.
Charging out in front in the first quarter, Lamount Samuell (20 points) seemed to to assure a win for the Ballers but the Queens based Next Level squad had an opposeing concept, tying the game as the second quarter began.
With Sampson Lawal (8 points) as a defensive pressence and Saquan Delaughter (11 points) providing offense, Next Level trumped the lead from the Brooklyn team ealy in the second quarter. The Ballers would slowly come into range and a basket by Brooklyn Tech HS senior Kherel Silcott (10 points) at the buzzer would knot the game at 24 apiece.
The Brooklyn Ballers would quickly retake the lead but their head coach Gary Sheares knew it wouldn't be a cake walk. Urging his team to crank it up, the Ballers responded and extended their lead as players like Davante Durham (4 points) added some of the intangibles that resulted in the win.
