Satellite over shorthanded Loughlin

BROOKLYN, NY - In a heated match-up in the Conrad McRae Youth League on Saturday at Dean Street Park, Satellite Academy took on a short-handed Bishop Loughlin squad - a team missing their stars, Khadeen Carrington and Mike Williams - Satellite Academy took advantage and came out on top 59-50.
The game started out with Jayvian Dela Cruz (2014 Wing) scoring an array of baskets including a one handed slam which bounced Bishop Loughlin out to a quick 7-2 lead with 4:44 remaining. The first quarter continued with strong play from Bishop Loughlin due to the good play of De La Cruz and the struggle of Satellite Academy to put points on the board. Bishop Loughlin had a slim 13-10 lead at the end of the first.

Satellite Academy came out playing better ball to open the second quarter but Bishop Loughlin was well prepared their run. De La Cruz got tough basket after tough basket around the rim and propelled his team to a 25-18 first half lead.
In the second half things began to change. Satellite Academy player Desmond Bifield (2014/Wing) came out scorching. Between a few dazzling crossovers, hard drives to the basket, and a sweet step back fade away jumpshot, Bifield led his team to their first lead of the game 35-34 with 43 seconds remaining in the third.
Throughout the fourth quarter, Satellite Academy continued to dominate behind the good play of Bifield. Bishop Loughlin at times tried to threaten but could never come back to within five points as they watched Bifield torch them in the paint over and over again and fell in a tough loss.
Bifield and Jayvian and De La Cruz and each led all scorers with 19 points apiece.
