Newburghs Going to Glens Falls

Saturday's, match-up was more about settling a score for Mount Vernon Knights who suffer a heart breaking defeat last season to Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks.
NFA were last season spoilers after a 55-ft prayer shot was heaved by senior guard Will Bouton as time expired, giving Newburgh a one point win over the Westchester power house team.

This season win at West Point Christl Arena did not arrive via prayer, it was serve up from a deep three-pointer by senior point guard Marcus Henderson at the 1:11 mark with the Knights trailing NFA would seal the deal 62-53.
In the early part of the opening quarter, Bouton fired the first shot and soon Newburgh led 10-2. Knight's Brandon White later added six points cutting NFA lead down to two NFA leads 19-18 at the end of the first quarter.
With NFA leading 24-18, Jabarie Hinds. Hinds received two fouls and sat out the last couple of minutes of the quarter. As a result, NFA leads 39-28 at the end of the half.
White kept the Knights alive going into the third quarter, although the Knights had 14 turnovers. With 4:17 left, Hinds received his fourth foul and is benched and Mt. Vernon is still down 44-33.
NFA scores back-to-back buckets and is up 50-35 with 1:44 left in the quarter. In the final minutes of the quarter, Lateef Belfor cuts NFA lead down to nine but the Goldbacks would drop six more points to lead 50-38 at the end of third quarter.
The Knight's score two at the line, in the fourth quarter but NFA still leads 50-40. Belfor would soon foul out but Hinds hit a trey, cutting NFA lead down to six. NFA calls for a timeout.
Devon McMillian, a Newburgh transfer from Uniondale HS, scored two after a steal with 3:37 left in the gamer. Mount Vernon's Jarrel Marshal hits a three cutting NFA lead down to three.
NFA still led 53-49 with 2:20 left in the quarter and Henderson hit a long three and McMillian adds two more off another steal. White puts two on the board with 1:11 left but the Goldbacks still led, 58-51. NFA would add three more points and close out the game.
Newburgh senior guard Mike McLeod led in scoring for his team with 17 points, eight boards and five assists. Devon "Fatty" McMillian contributed 12 points and nine boards.
Mount Vernon senior forward Brandon White led for his team with 19 points and 17 boards. Jabarie Hinds finished with five points respectfully.
NFA will meet the winner between Christian Brothers Academy-Albany (Section 2) vs. Cicero-North Syracuse (Section 3), on Saturday, March 20th at 12:30 p.m., at Glens Falls.
