Long Island Lightning Topple Team Nelson, 52-46
The game started off shaky for the L.I. Lightning-Dingle as Team Nelson went on a 12-0 run led by Marcus Williams with 13 minutes left in the first half. The Lightning mounted a comeback as Daniel Dingle began to score in the paint but the Long Island squad would still be behind, 29-27 at the midway point. Lightning-Dingle would take a one-point lead. Kareem Canty would hit key free-thows with 1:06 left to play giving the Lightning enough of a cushion for the win.
Albany City Rocks Pluck AZ Golden Eagles, 66-50
The Albany City Rocks (Black) team would give the Golden Eagles all they could hand and as N.C. State bound Tyler Harris and rising senior teammate Tyler Cavaunaugh led the charge.
Ahead 34-19 at the half, ACR would lead the game from start to finish. Cavaunaugh scored a game high 23 points with Harris adding 12 points.
CBC Edges MetroHawks, 53-51
Minus Andre Drummond, the Connecticut Basketball Club (CBC) was still a formidable squad as they played the MetroHawks to a 29-29 tie at halftime. With 9:22 left in regulation, CBC would begin to dominate the game as their bigs scored in the post. The MetroHawks were relentless, scoring in transition and closing the gap. Mt. Vernon's rising senior Will Robinson would finally tie the game at 48 with 3:49 left to play and St. Raymond's Larry Graves would soon thereafter nail a 3-ball to put the MetroHawks in front. Mike Malloy would respond offensively and then defensively for CBC who would go on to win. Malloy led CBC with 13 points.
Gauchos taken 2TheRack, 65-47
Even though the Gauchos were without recent UConn commit, Omar Calhoun, it was still widely assumed that legendary Choz team would prevail over a team made up primarily of Forest Hills and Cardozo HS players. That would however not be the case as Nick Padgett (Forest Hills) and the rest of the 2TheRack team put it on the Gauchos early and often. Back-to-back treys by Padgett would give 2TheRack a 18-7 lead with 6 minutes left in the first half. Brian Bernardi would get hot for the Choz cutting the lead down to 6 points but 2TheRack would extend their lead back to 28-14 at the half. Coached by Bingo Cole, the Gauchos started the second half, looking to make a run but could never get to within 9 points. With 5:13 left to play, two more Padgett three-pointers and a dunk by Terrel Hunt (Cardozo) would put 2The Rack up by 18 points and seal the upset. Padgett would lead 2TheRack with 14 points.
