New Heights edges out Washington Supreme

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - New Heights defeated the Washington Supreme 71-65 in a UAA II game that only had one double digit lead. New Heights was led by guard Markquis Nowell ‘18 who had 18 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Nowell’s combination of speed and shooting was difficult for Washington Supreme defenders.

“They were backing up the whole time,” Nowell said. “So I just kept pushing the basketball and attacking and they kept backing up so I knew I could shoot.”

Washington Supreme’s shooters were on target in this game as the team knocked down 11 three-pointers and shot 50 percent from deep. The Supreme were led by Erik Stevenson who had six of the team’s 11 baskets from beyond the arch.

New Heights was able to compete with the Washington shooters and knock down nine threes of their own, opening up the rest of the offense.

“The three gave us confidence and energy to get to the hole,” Nowell said. “We thrive on confidence.”

Late in the fourth quarter the Washington Supreme closed the New Heights’ lead to just one but was never able to take the lead. New Heights, who was in the double bonus late, was able to make the free throws they needed to put the game out of reach.
