As we head into the final month of high school basketball 's regular season, the rankings in NY, LI and Westchester/Upstate are tight.

Every game matters more and more. Here are a few of the pivotal games coming up this weekend.
FRIDAY
Cardinal Hayes @ St. Raymond
After a surprising double overtime loss against Fordham Prep, the #7 ranked St. Raymond Ravens look to regain their forward climb when they play #8 ranked Cardinal Hayes. The Cardinals are on an uptick with impressive play by Chris Robinson, winning two straight after losing to St. Anthony (NJ) in the SNY Invitational. Luis Santos must dominate the paint for the Ravens

SATURDAY
Abraham Lincoln @ Boys & Girls
Although unranked, nobody is discounting the Boys & Girls Kangaroos especially during their historic rivalry against Abraham Lincoln. The Railsplitters currently sit atop the NYCHoops Top Ten but stats and probability get thrown out the window for this Coney Island vs. Bed-Stuy Brooklyn competition. The Roos led by Wesley Myers really need this win to reclaim relevancy in their quest for a 4-peat especially after losing in OT to South Shore on Friday. It is rumored that combo guard Shaq Davis is back with Lincoln. Davis, Elijah Davis and assassin Isaiah Whitehead cannot let a young and rebuilding Boys team pull off the ultimate upset.

Archbishop Stepinac @ Mt. Saint Michael
Stepinac Crusaders with their fearless leader Josh James have been stumbling recently versus ranked competition and have dropped to the #7 spot in the Westchester/Upstate rankings. They cannot afford to lose against unranked Mt. Saint Michael who see the Crusaders as weakened and ripe for the picking.

Fordham Prep @ Christ the King
A week ago this game would've been a shoe in for the #4 ranked CTK Royals but after unranked Fordham Prep's overtime win versus ranked St. Ray's, I'd keep my eye on this game. CTK has a tough game versus Holy Cross on Friday that they should win but it could also soften them up for the unranked but hard charging Rams. Jon Severe needs to have a good home game for the Royals

Kellenberg @ St. Mary's
Once ranked Kellenberg needs a win against a ranked Long Island team in the worst way. #4 St. Mary's might be a prime target for a Firebirds comeback. After their recent shellacking by St. John the Baptist, a follow-up loss to Kellenberg at home could spell trouble for the Gaels. If they win, then the SJB loss was just a hiccup but if they lose... Big games are required for Gaels star players Devonte Green and Jessie Govan.

Albany Academy @ Long Island Lutheran
LuHi has been decimating every NY ranked team they've faced. Now Kentan Facey and the Lutheran Crusaders will host a tough and tested Albany Academy for Boys. The Cadets are ranked #5 in Westchester/Upstate and haven't lost a game all year.

Thomas Jefferson @ South Shore
Last time these two Brooklyn teams faced off, #6 ranked Jefferson lost at home in OT. A must win for Jefferson who must take out the #3 ranked Vikings home court. Terrence Samuel and has to come up big for South Shore since a leg injury sustained by Shamiek Sheppard on Thursday vs. Boys & Girls leaves them shorthanded. Jaquan Lynch and crew should be chompin' at the bit with the addition of their big man Karreem Johnakin

SUNDAY
St. Raymond @ Archbishop Stepinac
Two #7 ranked teams in their respective areas face off. A must win for both teams. Stepinac will have home field advantage

Bishop Ludden @ CBA
The #2 ranked Christian Brothers Academy rule the roost in the Westchester/Upstate ranking right below #1 Mt. Vernon. Bishop Ludden, who is currently ranked #8, would love nothing more than to pull off the upset. A solid game from Dan Owens is required for CBA while Daniel Kaigler and Ben Hackett need to step up big for Ludden.
