The NY Gauchos would pull off a, 48-46, upset over the defending champion Mad Mob off a clutch fade away jumper by 5'9" guard Taquan Givens.
With his older brother Anthony "Face" Givens in the crowd yelling "Eat him!, Eat him!", the younger Givens would let the clock wind down and go right and left on defender Shaq Mosley. With less than a minute left to play, and the game tied at 46, Givens would eventually feast, netting the game winning basket as the crowd went wild.
The Gauchos were playing with a depleted 6 man squad and early in the game the Mad Mob took advantage. With Mosley either attacking the rim or draining the long ball and Hofstra bound Jimmy Hall drop stepping in the paint, the Choz found themselves down 20-14 with 4:46 left in the first half.
Givens and teammate Dayshon Smith would begin to make some headway, setting off a 6-2 run that would close the gap. The Bronx, NY based Choz would still find themselves down 25-23 to start the third quarter.
Only three minutes in, Smith would knot the game at 25 and soon after, Ronnie Pickerton would give the Gauchos their first lead.
Mad Mob would not go down quietly as a basket by Corey James and a putback dunk by Tyshawn Myles regained their lead but the aggressive backcourt tandem of Givens and Smith would not be denied. A nice give n' go to wide body Danny Janel would give the Choz a 5 point lead going into the final quarter.
The defending champs would make a run as 5'8" Mosley, a skilled offensive PG, attempted to put the team on his back.
With 59.3 secs left in regulation, Mosely would get fouled while attempting a 3-ball. Going 3 for 3 from the line, Mosley knotted the game at 46. Unfortunately for Mad Mob, that's when Givens would decide to close the show and seal the win for the Gauchos.
Givens was high man for the Choz with 22 points with Smith adding 12 points. Mosley and Jordan Parks paced Mad Mob with 13 and 12 respectively.
