The Lady Hornets wasted no time jumping out to an 8-0 lead. Within the first two minutes of the game, Banneker would respond with a 6-0 run of their own that would bring the score to 8-6 with 5:31 to play in the first quarter,
"The game plan was to execute the things that we have been working on offensively," said Midwood's second year head Coach Mike Moore. "We knew that Afrika Williams) was a phenomenal player and we wanted to let someone else other then Afrika beat us."
Banneker would keep the game within 10 points for most of the second quarter but would trail 43-27 at the half.
Coach Moore's plan worked as his team moved the ball around and knocked down shot after shot on the offensive end to open up the game from the beginning of the third quarter. "We don't take anything for granted. We prepare for every game like it's the championship and that's how we are going to approach every game this year, "he said.
Midwood was led by Junior Amina Markovic (24 points and 10 rebounds) and senior Buffalo signee Camera Miley along with sophomore Kyla Formey who finished with 16 points apiece. Banneker was led by senior Fordham commit Afrika Williams (18 points) and sophomore Tai Dun (12 points).
