Lady Blazers blaze Manhattan Center

NEW YORK, NY- Bergtraum Lady Blazer's steam rolled past rival Manhattan Center high school in a 71-36, victory on Tuesday to open there PSAL season.

This being is one of the most heated girl's rivalries in the PSAL, which sometimes goes far beyond the basketball court.
Last year, Manhattan Center had Bergtraum's videographer thrown out of the gym during the 2nd quarter of the rivalry game, as he was told he could not record the game. A few months earlier, a Bergtraum coach had a Manhattan Center Assistant coach removed from their gym at a team scrimmage versus Mary Louis Academy by school public safety security with the reasoning that scrimmages are closed to the public.
Right from the beginning, the Lady Blazers started the game off on a 9-0 run that was started by senior Jasmine Nwajei who opened the game with a 3 pointer, Nwajei would close out the first quarter by taking the ball away from a MCHS player with 10.5 seconds left in the quarter and converting on a easy lay-up to give her lady Blazers. 15-3 lead.
Manhattan Center would fight but would never get the deficit any closer than 9 points in the second half on the game.
Murry Bergtraum was led Nwajei. The Wagner College bound senior scored 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Sophomore Ashanae McLaughlin added 11 points, 8 rebounds, 8 steals and 2 assists while Alexandria Smith contributed 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Manhattan Center was led by juniors Brenda Hernandez and Leslie Sanchez with 10 points and 8 points respectively.
