After all, it was a preseason all-star game that pitted the best players from New York City against its Long Island rivals, as offense permeated throughout a packed house at Jack Curran Gymnasium.
When the dust settled, and after multiple lead changes in the wild affair, Long Island emerged victorious, outlasting New York City, 119-118, Sunday at Archbishop Molloy High School.
Long Island overcame a 13-point fourth quarter deficit early in the period with a 23-3 run to claim a 104-97 advantage with a little over four minutes remaining in the tilt.
Our Savior New American players Mike Nzei, who garnered Metro Classic MVP accolades, and Kobie Eubanks paced Long Island with 20 and 18 points, respectively. While other players drained more points, it was Deer Park senior guard and Wagner commit Aaren Edmead, who was Long Island's unsung hero, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the fourth stanza. The 5'11" PG also provided the toughest and tenacity in order for his team to pull out the victory down the stretch.
NYC's Isaiah Whitehead, a Seton Hall commit, scored a game-high 21 points, Molloy senior guard C.J. Davis had 18 and Desi Rodriguez added 17 in defeat.
