Knights Shine in Regional Final

The Class AA Regional Final on Saturday at Cortland was not your typical easy win for the Mount Vernon Knights who defeated Binghamton 93-72.
At the start of the first quarter Mount Vernon lead 8-7, however Binghamton looked more aggressive in transition. The Knights continued increasing their lead to 21-14 with Kevin Jones scoring four points and Sherrod Wright with 5 points after the first quarter.

Going into the second Binghamton just did not have the power to out hustle the Knights who were now leading 30-20 with 2:54 left in the half. The Knights played six of the bench players already as Binghamton was still trailing.
Binghamton's Chris Cartwright made an acrobatic shot for two in the second quarter to fire up his team. Mount Vernon collapsed in the final two minutes of the half- and Binghamton came back to tied up the score at 33.
Mount Vernon quickly scored nine straight points to retake the lead 44-36. The Knights then began to dominate the game in the third and went on a run of 18-2 with three minutes left in the third. Binghamton in the third quarter had started to make too many mistakes, even though the Knights performance was not so great.
In the fourth both teams gave up defensively, the Knights still out scoring Binghamton but the chemistry of the Knights was off as this game ended.
Game leaders were Kevin Jones with 31 points, and 14 rebounds. Sherrod Wright added 26 points. The Knights will advance to the final four on Saturday at 2:15 at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
