Knights Drive Safely to STOP-DWI Title

A 16 – 0 comeback run in the first quarter of Sunday's game would leave no doubt that the Holy Cross Knights meant business as they obliterated the I.C. Norcom Greyhounds from Portsmouth, VA 70 – 42 to claim the championship in the 16th Annual STOP-DWI Holiday Tournament. The event was held at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
The Norcom Greyhounds did begin the game up 7 – 2 but a baseline jump shot by senior forward Kayvon Roberts and a lay-up by Tim Beinert on an assist from point guard Blaise Ffrench jumpstarted the run that sealed the Greyhounds fate.

A good transition game plus Holy Cross' patented in-your-face defense as well as defensive rebounding off Norcom misses increased the lead to 33 – 17, partially due to Norcom poor 7 for 31 shooting.
Virginia-bound guard Sylven Landesberg was unstoppable as he ran a clinic on the overmatched Greyhound squad benefiting from Holy Cross coach Paul Gilvary's run and gun style offensive structure. Norcum coach Leon Goolsby simply was unable to deny him the ball.
All and all the Knights dominated on defense and offense shooting 31 of 60 and out rebounding the Greyhounds 40 to 29. The win was the definition of "a blow-out" and was redemption of a 2004 STOP-DWI final game where Cross loss a 6-point game to St. Raymond's of the Bronx, NY
High scorer for The Knights was Landesberg, who was also the tournament MVP, with 27 points and 12 rebounds. Blaise Ffrench added 15 points. Deshaune Green led the Greyhounds with 14 points. Three players from The Knights (Landesberg, Ffrench and Beinert) made the All-Tournament team as well.
