In the upcoming Jordan Brand Classic Regional (City vs. Suburbs) All-Star Game on April 19th at Madison Square Garden, Sean Kilpatrick will be in the playing for the Suburbs Team.
Is there any player in New York with more hype on them than Sean Kilpatrick? Prior to the beginning of this season, the 6-foot-5 guard from White Plains High School was still a bit under the radar. Sure he hung Mount Vernon and a couple other schools in the Westchester Area for points, but he was still a bit unknown. All that has now changed.
Last season at White Plains, Kilpatrick led the Tigers to a 21-4 record while scoring 21 points a game to go with seven rebounds. While those numbers were good, he often got overlooked due to the play of his Westchester Hawks AAU buddies, Mookie Jones and Kevin Jones. The player known as "SK' just waited for his moment. "Playing where I play I might not get the same recognition of some of the other guys in the city, but I know I can play," he said awhile back. Now others know he can.
Through the Tigers season thus far, Kilpatrick has been burning opponents for close to 30 points a game and causing the sleepers to wake up. He recently dropped 33 on Mount Vernon while scoring his 1,000th career point and the barrage of offers came from there. Schools in the Northeast knew about him and offered early in the summer or even last year. Now he's on the national spotlight and things are picking up.
Once this season concludes, Kilpatrick should have a lot of leverage with what he wants to do with his career. He can either head to a school of his choice now or take a year of prep school to better his grades. A possibility that has been considered.
Strengths:
If you're looking for a scorer, then Kilpatrick is the person you need to look at. He can flat out fill it up from the beginning of the game until the end. At 6-foot-5 he can stroke the ball over shorter the defenders and the fact that he has high elevation on his jump shot almost makes him automatic. For a guard he is able to get to the boards and be effective that way as well.
Weaknesses:
Right now, it's hard to tell the exact position Kilpatrick would play at the next level. He's big enough to play a small forward position, but his handle still needs some fine tuning and to play at the shooting guard spot, he'll have to step his defense up a bit.
Kilpatrick has received offers from St. John's, Seton Hall, George Washington, Kansas State, Oregon State & Auburn.
