Jordan Brand Classic Regional All-Star Ryan Pearson will be playing for the City Team as they play against the Suburbs Team on Saturday April 19th at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
If you look across the board in the CHSAA, Ryan Pearson might be the best forward in the league. Now before the message board gets flooded with crazy responses, here's why Pearson could have that title.
Last season at Christ the King the 6-foot-7 Pearson was a big reason Bob Oliva's team went 24-5. While Malik Boothe and Erving Walker saw a lot of the limelight, it was Pearson along with Andrew Gabriel who manned the inside for the Royals. Pearson was an inside force averaging close to a double-double every time before the Royals season was ended by Rice.
With just Walker back in the backcourt, Pearson will be asked to step up as one of the leaders for CTK. And if his performance at IS8 was any indication of what people will see this year, the CHSAA could be in trouble. Pearson was the man for his Team Odom squad. He scored when they needed a basket in the paint. Got a rebound when he wanted to and even help bring the ball up and alleviate pressure from the guards when defenses went with a full court man defense.
During his time at IS8 Pearson did everything, even committing George Mason. A surprise if you saw the likes of Big East and Conference USA schools that were after him.
Strengths:
At 6-foot-7 the biggest thing Pearson has going for him is his size. In the paint he can grab rebounds and finish around the basket very well. He's also left handed which makes it tough for defenders to block his shot, because you rarely see left handers on the floor. He is sort of like a dirty work guy. You don't need to run any plays for him. He'll get his by rebounding and put backs.
Weaknesses:
Still unclear if he is a small forward or power forward. He doesn't have the total package to be a three because he struggles at times putting the ball on the floor with pressure defense and height wise some would say he's a bit undersized to be a four. And while he does have inside moves around the basket pretty secure, knocking down the consistent 10-12 footer will take his game to new heights.
