Sixteen of the top-ranked basketball freshman in the country will gather for a weekend of training and peer counseling sponsored by the Jim Couch Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 basketball empowerment
organization. The showcase is part of a celebration sponsored by Jim Couch, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's first coach, that honors the New York City public school teachers, administrators and students who personify strong community learning and service.
Last year, Stephen Zimmerman, Isaiah Briscoe, Thomas Bryant, Kejuan Johnson, and Marcus Derrickson headlined the event and are now part of ESPN's TOP 25 sophomore list.
This year, Cody Riley, a 6-7 8th grader, who has the nation excited about the future of basketball and Thon Maker, a 7-0 9th grader who has ball-handling and wing perimeter skills, are the headliners. We feel that the Super 16 National Freshman game will be looked at as a must-see on the developing streaming market this year and for years to come.
The weekend event includes a National Sophomore Challenge game versus a strong New York Metro team, a middle school regional game, a Saturday practice/training combine media day, a Sunday academic breakfast brunch at the host hotel, and a pep rally with selected high schools during the Sunday main event.
The pep rally will also include the New York Knicks community event staff with current and retired players during our Sunday morning
clinic and during half-time of our featured events. The game will be streamed on a network to be announced and there is a presenting sponsorship opportunity to get involved with SLAM Magazine as our Media Partner on all platforms.
The game marketing will include a dedicated social media campaign, gym signage, and auxiliary gym takeover rights in the heart of midtown Manhattan.
