J-D 3 Peat to Win NY State Chip

On Sunday, Jamesville DeWitt would bring home their third consecutive Class "A" New York State championship title with a 59-45 victory over Newark.
The Red Rams finished their season with a perfect 24-0 record. The Red Rams have advanced to Federation Tournament of Champions, where they will play the Class "A" PSAL champion in the semifinals at 6:45 p.m. Friday.

J-D's big man and leading scorer Dajuan Coleman, was named the MVP after finishing with 12 points and 14 boards. Senior guard Lamar Kearse, who has been part of all 3-peat teams was named to the all-tournament team tallied 17 points on seven of 13 shooting. Sophomore Tyler Cavanaugh contributed 11 points and 10 boards.
Newark's attempt to keep up against a bigger and faster J-D team was fruitless. After the first quarter J-D led 13-9 going on an 11-4 run by the end of the second quarter. The score would knot at 15-15 tie but J-D would take the lead 26-20 before the end of the half.
In the third quarter the Red Rams began to dominate taking control of the game going on an 8-0 run 36-24. Kearse would score on a breakaway and Jailaan Kinsey hit a jumper from the left wing. Demetrius Mitchell would then score off a fast break J-D led 42-26.
Newark had 24.2 percent shooting for the game and made only 16 of 66 shots from the field. Newark 23-2 season ending record, center Javon McCrea finished with 16 points and forward Ben Hold added 13.
Jamesville Dewitt is the fourth New York team to win as many as five titles. The Red Rams have won Class A titles in 2004, 2008 and 2009, and a Class B championship in 1990.
