iS8/Nikes Saturday Blowouts

The iS8/Nike Fall Tip-Off Classic kicked off its first Saturday of the tournament with four major blowouts.
For the winning squads, which easily ran through their opponents, it was a quickly acquired notch on the pool play belt. Meanwhile, the non-production of the blown-out teams put a nasty scar on the reputation of the losing teams -- a blemish on their records very early in the season.

Playaz Club (Jrs) Flatten Team Albany, 65-24
After dropping the ball against a very quick and talented Ben Gordon All-Stars in its first matchup of pool play, 64-47, Playaz Club (Jrs.) could not afford to make the same mistakes twice.
The New Jersey squad did not only learn from the mishaps of the first contest, but also established a winning posture with a 65-24 victory over Team Albany in the second matchup of the day.
The 41-point blowout was the largest trouncing of the day.
Although the game started in the third quarter and Playaz Club (Jrs.) was awarded a 16-0 advantage because of the tardiness of Team Albany, it hardly made a difference. Playaz did not just maintain the 16-point margin, but more than doubled it by the close of the third phase, 42-4, on a steal and bucket by New Jersey's Josh Marquez (game-high 14 points).
Playaz Club overwhelmed Team Albany with its skill, size and ball movement. Albany's Pat Caruso (team-high 10 points) stayed fundamentally sound on both the offensive and defensive ends. However, Caruso's teammates did not complement his hard work.
Playaz (Jrs.), which led by as much as 44 points during the game, improved to a 1-1 standing. New Jersey's Reggie Cameron and Joel Hernandez added 10 and seven points to the win, respectively. Team Albany is currently 0-1.
Playaz Club (Srs) Bulldozes Primetime, 131-91
Playaz Club (Srs.) waited a long time to hit the hardwood since its first matchup was a forfeit (Knights). So, when it was time to finally see some action, the Playaz (Srs.), a very powerful unit, were relentless.
Playaz slowly crept ahead early in the first quarter, leading by only four points in the opening minutes of the first period. However, within the next few minutes, Playaz leapt ahead of the competition by as much as 20 points, 38-18. A 3-pointer by Primetime with a few ticks remaining in the warm-up phase slightly cut the Playaz' lead to 17.
Playaz' Kyle Anderson (game-high 61 points, 31 in the first half) continued finding open gaps on the wings in the second quarter, making Primetime pay from the arc. Anderson's noticeable size advantage also allowed him to drain mid-range jumpers and flush putbacks with relative ease.
Playaz led 68-44 at halftime.
Additional production from the athletic Chris Jones (21 points) maintained the high point margin against a very feisty Primetime.
Primetime's Shaq McFarlan (team-high 25 points), Chris Rejos (23 points) and Kody Jenkins (17 points) tirelessly attempted to get some stops and go on subsequent scoring binges, but Playaz had too many options of its own.
Playaz led by as much as 45 points, 123-78, late in the fourth and final phase.
Playaz Club (Srs.) now stands at 2-0 and Primetime is 0-1.
Long Island Lightning Strikes Down Sportsfess, 70-30
L.I. Lightning, like the other winners-by-blowout on Saturday, separated itself from the competition in the first period. L.I. Lightning led Sportsfess-Youngbouls 20-9 near the close of the first quarter.
The Lightning led 36-15 by halftime.
Sportsfess' Mike Brown (team-high 16 points) tried to keep the sinking ship afloat, but the Lightning's Jonathan Severe (game-high 19 points) and company did not let up on the scoring barrage.
L.I. Lightning's margin widened dramatically quarter by quarter, eventually shutting down Sportsfess 70-30. As a result, the Lightning hold a 1-0 standing.
Slow Bucks Takes Sportsfess 2 The Rack, 60-28
Slow Bucks.TV/2 The Rack posed a serious problem for Sportsfess, picking the competition apart piece by piece. There was no stopping the formidable force of Jordan Washington, who displayed both big man and guard ability.
2 The Rack defense prevented Sportsfess from scoring in clusters and, in turn, stifled any offensive momentum stirring from its opponent.
Washington netted a game-high 18 points in the 60-28 victory. Teammates Tarik Raynor and Uzonna Akazi added nine points a piece.
2 The Rack owns a 1-0 record, while Sportsfess dropped to 0-2.
