iS8/Nike Out-brackets End

SOUTH JAMAICA, NY - Friday marked the last day of the iS8/Nike Spring HS Classic out-bracket rounds as four more teams faced off for the right to participate in Saturday's second round action.

Team Scan played 2GZ Entertainment followed by the NY Panthers (Srs) versus Team Price in the finale.
Team Scan closes the show on 2GZ Entertainment, 53-39
A tardy Team Scan had to fight uphill against a warmed-up and ready 2GZ Entertainment. Penalized a quarter and down 16-zip to before the game even started, Team Scan would fall behind by 18 points before finding their flow. Kassoum Yakwe started to get going as the gifted lefty scored inside and innately blocked shots on defense. Lenny Kadisha displayed his athleticism with offensive rebounds and putbacks and at the half, Team Scan was only down 26-19
As 2GZ floundered, Team Scan began to surge. PG Bryce Aiken navigated the offense and drained the long ball. A trey by Aiken with 5:15 left into the third, would give Team Scan their first lead. Their subsequent 18-0 run would leave 2GZ gasping for air in an 11 point hole to start the final quarter.
The combination of Aiken from the perimeter and Yakwe from the interior would cut the entertainment short, advancing Team Scan into the next round where they will play Sport University on Saturday at 3pm.
Kadisha led the way for Team Scan with 15 points while Yakwe and Aiken added 13 point each.
Panthers (Srs.) make Team Price pay, 67-55
It was a game of missed shots as opposed to solid defense that led to a low scoring game that put the NY Panthers up 14-11 heading into the second quarter. Cardozo's Kyle Creadle and Darnell Holmes powered Team Price while recent St. Rose commit, Mical Ryan Boyd (L.I. Lutheran) and big man Travis Charles countered for the NY Panthers.
At the half, the Panthers still led by three but a strong quarter by Ryan Boyd help extend the lea d to 14 points heading into the fourth quarter. 6'8" Jaleel Charles did a formidable job of pounding inside to score and Team Price managed to cut the Panthers' advantage down to 8 points with 4:30 left to play.
Heated interplay between Jaleel Charles and Travis Charles would take result in Jaleel losing his cool and being benched by head coach J.R. Rodriguez. The Panthers would reestablish a double digit lead and advance to the next round where they would play New Heights (Srs.) on Saturday at 1:45pm.
Ryan-Boyd scored a game high 25 points with Travis Charles and Wesley Myers adding 12 points and 9 points respectively. Jaleel Charles was high man for Team Price with 12 points with Holmes contributed 10 points.
