Hofstra Signs Malik Nichols

Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich announced the next addition to his program as Malik Nichols has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Pride. Nichols, who will have two seasons of eligibility remaining, will begin his academic and athletic career at Hofstra in the 2014-15 academic year.
"Malik is another great addition to our evolving roster," commented Mihalich. "He will add some much-needed depth to our team as we continue to reshape the foundation of this program. We are also excited that we are adding a player from the local area. Bringing local, highly-talented student-athletes to Hofstra University is a priority of this coaching staff and we are thankful that Malik has chosen to become a member of the Pride."

A native of Queens, NY, Nichols joins the Pride from South Plains College in Levelland, TX. Nichols is a 6-6, 210 guard/forward.
During his two years at South Plains, Nichols appeared in 58 games and helped the Texan Basketball team to a combined record of 51-14. In 2013-14, South Plains won its conference championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA National Tournament.
Prior to South Plains, Nichols attended Bridgton Academy (ME) and Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. During his senior season at Boys and Girls, Nichols averaged a double-double with 12.7 points and 10.7 rebounds. He was named to the All-City second team by the New York Daily News and first team All-Brooklyn by the Daily News. At the time he helped the Kangaroos to their second straight PSAL title.
Nichols joins two other newcomers on next year's roster as Mihalich announced the addition of Rokus Gustys last week and Andre Walker back in November.
