Hersh Tip-Off Classic starts season

BROOKLYN, NY - The Public School out-of-league high school season got underway on Saturday at the Hersh Tip-Off Classic as quite a few teams dove into the competitive pool and got their feet wet.
In addition, the host school, Thomas Jefferson Campus and St. Raymond scrimmaged against each other.
  • In the opening game, the Thomas Edison Inventors served notice as they bested the Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (W.H.E.E.L.S.) Wolves, 65-61. Jaleel Charles earned the MVP scoring 18 point with junior Orain Lawrence and senior guard Nosike Obanya adding 18 points and 17 points respectively.
  • The Wadleigh Tigers took an "L" as the Westinghouse Warriors came from behind to win it, 69-65. MVP Tremaine Elder scored a game high 23 points.
  • M.S.I.T Seagulls came out fired up and repped Staten Island as they handed the Martin Van Buren VeeBees a 72-66 loss. Osa Izebuwa put on a one man show leading the S.I. squad with 45 points.
  • The Bedford Academy Panthers embarrassed the Long Island City Bulldogs with a 71-38 whuppin'. Darren Thomas won the MVP with 13 points and 11 assists.
  • In the finale, the Brooklyn HS for Law and Technology Jets topped the HS for Construction Red Hawks, 66-55 with MVP Mathew Scott's 22 points leading the way.
