One year ago at this time 5’11” wing Lexi Green (Pittsford Mendon ‘21) was focused on lacrosse with the Vikings, yet now she is an integral part of City Rocks success on the 17u AAU circuit on the basketball side as she is now firmly on the radar of Division 1 schools.

It’s not to say Green wasn’t a basketball player a year ago but instead of devoting herself full time to the sport she split her time between basketball and the lacrosse field.

This season though Green put the lacrosse stick down and has focused full time on the hardwood, a decision that her AAU coach with City Rocks in Keith Danzy says is paying off in a big way.

“When you have an athlete that can play multiple different sports it makes the transition much easier,” Danzy said about Green’s adjustment to the AAU scene. “She is so athletic and can probably thrive in any sport she played so those qualities come onto the basketball court very well.”

Danzy said he knew about Green after her freshman year and tried to get her to dedicate herself to basketball at that point and play with City Rocks then, and while at that point it wasn’t meant to be he is happy to have her now.

You can make the argument that playing a level up that Green has been the most important player on this seasons City Rocks team as with big time recruit Saniaa Wilson our with injury it’s been Green who has been put in the post to guard the oppositions best player most days, with her strength and great footwork inside allowing her to more than hold her own.

It’s Green’s versatility to do different things on the court playing both inside and outside that has Danzy so excited about what her future holds.

“With Saniaa being gone Lexi fills a lot of different holes until she gets back,” Danzy explained. “She does a lot of bringing people out to the perimeter and going by them, and when they stay in there and respects the jump shot she makes them pay.”

Even with Green in her first season of high level AAU basketball she has already started to draw attention from a number of America East and MAAC schools, while Ivy League programs are also coming around as Green is a strong student in the classroom as well.

There is certainly a lot to like about Green’s game as she is shining with City Rocks now and looks primed for a big July ahead with Danzy saying that for his star sophomore the sky is certainly the limit.

“She’s really just now dedicating herself to basketball full time and with he way she is playing I have no doubt that Lexi will have a lot of opportunities very shortly,” Danzy said.
