Glens Falls State Semis Wrap-up
There was one upset on Saturday at Glens Falls however; every team came out to ball battling down to the wire seeking that number one spot.
The first game of the day featured two Class A undefeated teams Jamesville Dewitt 22-0 and Red Hook 23-0. The next game of the day would be Class A Westbury vs. Newark and later Class AA Christian Brothers Academy vs. Newburgh Free Academy. The feature game of day for Class AA was Half Hallow Hills vs. East High of Rochester.

Jamesville Dewitt Tops Red Hook; Still Undefeated
Lamar Kearse, J-D's senior point guard played his heart out scoring back-to-back three-pointers along with a driving layup, going the extra mile. The Red Rams team, who are now 23-0, defeated Red Hook, 63-53. Jamesville-DeWitt will advance to play for the Championship Class A title on Sunday at 1pm. against Newark.
Kearse finished with 12 points, five boards, four assists and two steals, and is still one the most talented unsigned senior in his class. The Red Rams sophomore big man Dajuan Coleman led all scorers with 22 points, and 13 boards.
After Red Hook's Ryan Dalton hit a three-pointer, chopping down the Rams lead to 48-45 with five minutes remaining in the quarter, Kearse would respond with a three-pointer off a steal, then take the ball back after a miss and drive through the Red Hooks defense to make it 53-45. Red Hook's Demetrius Mitchell would get another steal to score and push the lead to 10, but Red Hook would not come back.
Spencer Dalzell hit five 3-pointers for Red Hook and led his team with 19 points. Dan Totten had 12 points and Cody Mauch added 11 points, six boards and three assists.
On Sunday, Jamesville-DeWitt, a Section 3 team, looks to win their five title in the finals against, Newark.
Westbury Falls to Newark
Newark would battle down to the wire against the Long Island's Westbury Green Dragons, knotting the score at 47 with three minutes to play. Newark (23-1) would then take out Westbury in a 55-48 victory. Newark will advance to their first state final since 1990, against two-time defending state champion Jamesville-DeWitt on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Early in the quarter, Newark failed to sink shots until Javon McCrea came alive. McCrea turned on the defense with two blocks and an assist.
McCrea finished leading all scorers with 25 points, 18 boards and eight blocks stymieing Westbury's high scorer, Sheldon Hagigal who finished 17 points. By halftime, Westbury would be leading 28-23 but Newark showed no signs slowing down fighting them way to victory.
CBA Locks Up Newburgh Free Academy
Christian Brothers Academy of Albany (23-1) knocked out the defending champions Newburgh Free Academy, 60-41, in a Class AA semifinal. CBA will advance and battle for the title against for the Class AA Half Hollow Hills West 24-1, at 2:45pm. on Sunday.
Senior playmaker Kameron Ritter led CBA with a game high of 25 points and seven steals as they coasted away from NFA. Great defense and good zone play helped the Brothers dominate and pressure NFA.
CBA knew that they had to shut down Newburgh's speedy point guard Marcus Henderson, if they wanted the win. Henderson finished the game with only three points and five assists. CBA was able to stop Henderson penetration as well as the Goldbacks other key shooters and scorers. Newburgh's leading scorer was Patrick Johnson, with 10 points and Mike McLeod who contributed eight points.
The Brothers led throughout most of this match-up, taking control 14-5 in the first half run, and then distancing themselves to a 20-point lead with a 17-5 run to start the fourth quarter. NFA had pulled within six points, 30-24, early in the third quarter but CBA closed out the quarter with a 39-29 lead.
CBA would dominate the fourth quarter, shooting 46.5 percent from the floor while Newburgh struggled shooting only 31 percent, missing layups.
CBA Galal Cancer finished with nine boards and 13 points and Max Weaver added seven rebounds and nine points.
Half Hollows Hills Squeaks By East High
Whew!! What a close call for the L. I. Half Hollow Hills West Colts that was seconds from not advancing to Sunday's Championship round. With 10 seconds left in game play, Tobias Harris would hit a game winning shot leading his team to a 59-57 victory over East High of Rochester. The HHHW team (24-1) will advance to play CBA of Albany in the championship game on Sunday at 2:45 p.m.
East High was in defensive mode from the start of the quarter. The undersized Rochester team made up for their size with speed and shooting. Brandon Caruthers and David Brannon drove to the basket, while senior, Jonathon Ivy, who finished with a team-high 16 points and three steals, knocked down jumpers as East took an early lead.
Hills West's size advantage was visible but the Colts did not use it to take advantage during a good portion of game. East High held on for an 18-10 rebound advantage at halftime.
Harris, finished with 24 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks put on a show with huge dunks.
East High's missed opportunities along with turnovers late and a pair missed free throws with 31.5 seconds in the game which stalled East's final push.
East High senior guard, Caruthers, finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
