Coming off a strong junior season, and an even stronger AAU season, 6'0" wing Destiny Howell (St. Francis Prep '20) is now looking at her options for the next four years as she narrows her college choices with a final decision about her future soon on the horizon.

It was a time of change for Howell at this point last year as she transferred from Glen Cove into St. Francis Prep and was in a situation for the first time where game in and game out on the high school level she would be challenged.

When the season ended in March it was viewed as a major success with Howell proving to be one of the better shooters from the outside in the CHSAA, helping the Terriers to a run to the Brooklyn/Queens title game.

Moving over to the AAU scene with her iExcel team, Howell said transitioning back to the summer circuit was easy because of the familiarity she saw with many of her St. Francis Prep teammates joining her on iExcel's Under Armour Association team.

"Having MacKayla and having JeAnna absolutely made things easier because we understand each other's games so well and I think we feed off each other well," Howell explained.

Her game really expanded this summer as well as while Howell was happy being one of New York City's best shooters, it wasn't something she wanted to be pigeonholed with.

That's why she put a lot of time into other aspects of her game to showcase to college coaches that while she is still going to be viewed as a great outside threat, there is a lot more to her game at this point to get those recruiting her excited about just how versatile she can be.

"I didn't want to be looked at as a shooter and nothing else so it was about having the confidence to do more than just that," Howell stated. "I worked hard and feel I'm better now at putting the ball on the floor and can offer a lot more than just one thing."

The additions to Howell's game have allowed her to become someone a number of Division 1 programs coveted. She is just coming back from an official visit to Howard and has plans to visit both Norfolk State and Sacred Heart as well with a decision to come in her mind sooner than later.

Howell wants to have a decision for where she will be next year by the start of her senior year on the court with St. Francis Prep saying that she wants to focus on bringing the Terriers a CHSAA title while having the comfort of having her future home for the next four years.

"For sure it's going to be by the start of the season," Howell said. "I'm going to take my visits and make a decision so all my focus can be on the season and hopefully winning a city title."
