Girls: Kennedy Grady - Heart of a Lioness

When you watch 5'3" guard Kennedy Grady (Bishop Loughlin '22) play you have to be able to look past the size and see her for what she truly is on the floor, a top flight shooter who is becoming the heart and soul of everything the Lions do.

Having coached basketball now for over a dozen years, Bishop Loughlin head coach Phinnigan Edwards has seen a lot of talented players come through his programs but very few in his eyes match the abilities that Grady brings to the table even though he says she may not always get the credit she deserves.

"This girl has a gift," Edwards said when describing Grady. "I've seen a lot of basketball and Kennedy has been doing this since the fifth grade and she doesn't get recognition for what she does and who she is for our program and our team."

In Grady's first game as a freshmen for Bishop Loughlin just over a year ago she poured in 18 points going 6-8 from behind the three point line in what was a preview of what was to come. Grady had a couple of games where she made 7 three's in a game a year ago and has added to that this season with a 9 made three point game as well.

Shooting with the precision that she does has Grady not just among the best three point three's in New York City if you ask Edwards, but the best bar none.

"That little girl is the best shooter in New York City hands down and for me there is no argument," Edwards passionately stated.

Now that Grady has mastered the ability to spot up and knock down shots on a consistent basis from the outside Edwards says the transition has begun to seeing her play more on the ball and be more of a facilitator while also making her someone who can head fake and put the ball on the floor and shoot off the bounce.

It's the continued evolution of Grady's game and not skipping any steps as Edwards says he doesn't want Grady moving past a step when she isn't ready in the progression of what is looking to be one of the more dynamic games in New York.

As of right now Grady has a couple of looks from some mid-major Division 1 schools along with some Division 2's as well but she is being a bit underrecruited if you ask Edwards, primarily he feels because of her size.

That will change he says though as there is nothing that is going to stop Grady for getting to where she wants to be, and with a couple higher school years left to continue proving herself, Edwards knows that the best is even still to come.

"I feel they aren't really recognizing who she is yet maybe because of her size but this girl has the heart of a lion and she will get hers in due time because I promise you Kennedy is prime time so just watch out," Edwards said with a big smile.
