CYP Semi Finals Recap

On Monday, the semi-final rounds arrived. The last four teams standing were full of A-list of superstar athletic talent.

NY Blaze Knocks off CT Select 76-73
Both teams came out to ball. The score was tied at the end of the first at 13.Blaze's Stephen Wilson (20pts) scored two off the glass but CT's Davey McMillan tied up the score twice at 19 with five minutes left in the quarter. With a minute and a half remaining, Devonne Nolan (24pts) finished with a layup and gave CT the lead, 29-27. After a corner jumper by Blaze Toney Dobbenson, the score was tied once more at 29. Blaze was called for a foul sending Nolan to the line to score. Tremaine Fraiser (14pts) gave CT a one point lead at the end of the half 32-31.
In the third quarter the Kevin Lemne (15pts) inched the Blazers closer to CT's lead making the score 51-48 with three minutes remaining in the quarter. CT's Marcus Robinson hit a long three but it was Wilson who made it a four point game again at 54-50. A foul was called on Fraiser that sent Daeqvon Clarke to the line for a point. Both teams battled it out in the final quarter and this game came down to the wire. Lemne delivered a pass to Fraiser who scored two off the glass making the score 70-66. With a minute and a half left, Nolan scored at the line. A foul was called on the Blazers that sent McMillan to the line to score. Boyd hit a jumper to tie up the score at 73. The Blazers later walked away with a win.
Rodney Abrams out muscles the Panthers 61-54
This match-up was completely physical on both ends of the court. Two minutes into the opening quarter Tyler Whitehead broke a nine point tie and gave the Panthers the lead. With a minute and half left in the quarter, Abrams' Chris Obekpa (13 pts and 13blocks) put down a two handed jam to tie the score once more. Wesley Myers then hit a long three-pointer making it a three point game, 14-11.
Dashawn Richmond delivered a nice pass to Tafari Whittingham to close the half for a 16-13 Panthers lead.
With four minutes left in the second quarter, Travis Charles scored two off the glass and gave the Panthers the lead, 22-19. Abrams' Jordan Washington got a basket after a tough inside shot and made it a one point game, 22-21, Panthers.
Jordan Fuch (10pts) hit a corner jumper to increase the Panthers lead by two. Obekpa scored after the feed and made it a one point game, 24-23. Later, Felix Balamou (28pts) tied the score up at 26.
In the fourth Meyers hit a jumper making it a seven point game, 57-50 Abrams. Malik Harmon dished to Obekpa for another two handed jam, 59-50. With a minute left Obekpa fed the ball to Balamou for a bucket. Myers fired the last shot for the Panthers, but it was too late.
On Tuesday, NY Blaze will face Rodney Abrams at 7:30pm in the championship.
