CYP loses homecourt advantage in semis

PORT CHESTER, NY - On Monday, the 67th annual William R. Gallagher CYP tournament at Our Lady of Mercy Church entered into the final four round with two home town favorites battling for their lives.

Four teams battled in the semifinals but now the championship is set. Here are brief recaps of the action.
Panthers down hometown Team Frenji
For tonight's game the Panthers would enlist Abraham Lincoln's Isaiah Whitehead and LuHi's Mikel Ryan Boyd. Whitehead (24pts) and Wes Myers (19pts) would quickly boost the Panthers lead during the first quarter. With two minutes left into the half Frenji's' Dayshon Smith (12pts) scores back-to-back baskets. Myers jams two in another foul is call sending Frenji's Jason Boswell to the line for one to close out this quarter, 30-18 Panthers lead.
During the second quarter this game look all but over with Smith being the only Frenji scoring baskets as the Panthers dominated the quarter 47-28.
The tide would change in the third quarter at the 3:46 mark, Frenji's Elijah Davis with a feed to Desi Rodriguez for the basket to score for Frenji who still trailed, 59-37. Smith drives two points in Panthers Myers and Jarrel Marshal then score back-to-back baskets. Rodriguez would score eight more points to lift Frenji with minute remaining in the quarter, Panthers lead 64-51. Davis closed out the quarter on the buzzer with three, 68-53, Panthers lead.
The gym would roar in the fourth quarter after a feed from Whitehead to Marshal with 4:41 minutes remaining, 75-72. Frenji's Hassan Martin and Lenny Kadisha would score the final baskets with a minute left. The Panthers were too far out of Frenji's reach, as the quarter close, 95-82.
CT Select run off defending champs Rodney Abrams
The Abrams squad seemed to have control of their home court in the first quarter as Jaquan McKennon (24pts) and Kennedy's Bashir Ahmed (19pts) kept CT Select at bay, 18-12. CT Select's Raequan Clarke (14pts) scored back-to-back baskets but Ahmed would answer back with a tough rebounding shot over the defenders. CT Select Ian Gardiner would close out the quarter giving CT Select a one point lead, 21-20.
During the final minute of the second quarter, Rodney Abrams Taquan Givens would boost his team, scoring two back-to back three's but Abrams still trailed 38-30.
CT Select's Dante Gittens (14pts) would then steal an inbound ball in mid-air and score a dunk to close out the half, 40-33.
The gap widen in the third quarter as Abrams squad engaged in too much one-on-one. They trailed by eight by the end of the quarter 60-52. With a minute remaining in the fourth, Gittens hits a jumper from the corner. Givens scores a long three and the final two points of the game for his team as Abrams falls to CT Select, 80-66.
