Christ the King Gives Knights A Royal beating, 72-39
Holy Cross, a team on the NYCHoops.net rankings bubble, needed to play a near perfect game to have a shot against #3 ranked Christ the King. However, a 14-6 deficit after the end of the warm-up quarter left the Knights behind the eight ball before the Royals would even break a sweat
Jermaine Bishop kept the point spread respectable for a while as the senior guard drained eleven first half points for Holy Cross. The Royals lead grew to 24-9 with 5:02 until baskets by Bishop and junior Chaz Platt closed gap to 11 points at the three-minute mark.
The Royals would get their momentum back at the end of the quarter with ten first half points, including two dunks, by Rawle Alkins. The lead was soon back to 16 points with two minutes remaining in the half. Jared Rivers and phenom point guard Jose Alvarado also weighed in offensively and Christ the King was comfortably ahead 39-20 going into the third quarter.
CK's Lead grew to 23 before Jamel Horton, Christian Wilson and Bishop sliced the Royals lead to down to 13. 6'2" junior Tracey Cleckley quickly burst the Knights bubble, scoring and set up teammates to re-extend the Royals lead back to 21 with a minute left in the quarter. Alkins ended the third with a reverse dunk which put the Royals back up by 23 points entering the final quarter.
Midway through the fourth, Christ the King was up by 28 and head Coach Joe Arbitello mercifully subbed out his starters. Junior guard Malyk Eugene would come in and delight the crowds and his teammates as he finished off the Knights with a bucket and a transition dunk in the final minutes.
Alkins led Christ the King with a double-double (14 points & 13 rebounds) with Rivers adding 15 points and 4 rebounds. Bishop was high man for Holy Cross with 16 points.
Lions Roar Past Archbishop Molloy, 77-63
In an earlier match at Archbishop Molloy HS, Bishop Loughlin would knock off the Stanners led by sophomore Keith Williams who scored 21 points to go with 7 rebounds.
