C.Y.P Tournament Weekend Action

This weekend at the 67th annual William R. Gallagher CYP tournament at Our Lady of Mercy Church the crowd bubbled with anticipation of who would be in Monday's line-up. Here are brief recaps of Saturday and Sunday action.

March 23rd Saturday night: NY Panthers face BC Eagles and Frenji battles NY Blaze.
Panthers devour BC Eagles 93-74
The Eagles led throughout the entire first quarter with Mike Coffey (27pts) leading the way, ending the quarter on top 18-15. Panthers Jordan Washington (24pts) came alive, scoring eleven points in the half. The Panthers closed out the quarter up, 45-34. The Panthers dominated the third quarter maintaining a commanding lead, 71-52. The Eagles never came close
Frenji smokes the NY Blaze
Frenji's Hassan Martin (24pts) would dominate game play, closing out the half 49-41. With two minutes remaining in the final quarter, NY Blaze came close to inching up on Frenji's lead by ten 91-81. Martin then scored back-to-back baskets off a tip in and a feed from Dayshon Smith. NY Blaze would only manage to score seven more points, by the end of the fourth, 101-88.
March 24th Sunday night: CT Select faced the New Jersey Roadrunners and NY Falcons square off against Rodney Abrams.
CT Select battles the NJ Roadrunners
The NJ Roadrunners led by three at the end of the first quarter while CT Select were still getting comfortable in their surroundings, 15-12. During the closing minutes the score would tie twice. Roadrunner's Mike Knight would score two but CT Select's Ian Gardiner would knot the score once more at 22. By the end of the half, Roadrunners Will Joyce dunks twice in to close it, 24-22. This contest would go down to the wire with CT Select outlasting the Roadrunners,,62-61.
CT Select Raequan Clarke led for his team with 14 points with Bobby Bynum adding 11points.
Rodney Abrams out last the NY Falcons
This contest would come down to the final minutes with NY Falcons crafty trio of Troy McLaughlin (14pts) , Jack Sullivan (11pts), and young sophomore Kai Mitchell holding the Abrams squad at bay, ending the half by one 31-30.
Abrams' Bashir Ahmed (22pts) and Shamiek Sheppard (13pts) would turn it up in the final quarter. With three minutes remaining Mitchell scores inside to tie the score at 62. The Falcons would only score two more points in the final minutes. Abrams advances to the next round, 74-69.
March 25th on Monday
7;15pm The Panthers face Team Frenji
8:30pm Ct Select faces Rodney Abrams
