Beach Ball Classic Championship Recap

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- The 30th Annual Beach Ball Classic would wrap up on New Year's Eve. Two New York teams would hope to represent and vie for the championship.
On Friday, the Rice Raiders would play against Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans for fifth place while Boys & Girls Kangaroos would play the Miller Grove Wolverines for the championship.

Miller Grove Downs Boys & Girls for Beach Ball Chip
Miller Grove (Lithonia, GA) captured the 30th Annual Beach Ball Classic Championship with a 79-58 victory over Boys & Girls (Brooklyn, NY).
Boys & Girls (9-2) ran out to a 9-2 lead in the opening 2:43 as Mike Taylor (16 points) scored the Kangaroos first five points before Leroy Fludd (17 points, 9 rebounds)) added a pair of free throws. Miller Grove (12-0) responded with a 15-2 run to take a 17-11 lead with 7:43 on the clock. Boys & Girls would tie the score at 17-17 with three quick baskets over the next two minutes. A 13-4 run by Miller Grove opened a 30-21 lead with 2:36 remaining in the opening half. The Wolverines went on to lead 40-30 at the break.
Miller Grove never looked back in the second half as the Wolverines shot over 50 percent from the field and built leads as large as 27 points.
Tony Parker, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, led Miller Grove with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Henry Brooks also tallied 20 points for the Wolverines. Taylor was voted Most Outstanding Player while Fludd was voted on the All-Tournament Team.
Rice Gets Roasted by GAC for 5th place
Greater Atlanta Christian (Norcross, GA) ran out to an early double digit lead and never looked back on a 73-49 win over Rice (Manhattan, NY). The win gives the Spartans (7-2) fifth place in the 30th Annual Beach Ball Classic.
GAC led 37-19 at halftime and by as many as 29 in the second half while cruising to the win. Malcolm Brogdon led the Spartans with 28 points while A.J. Davis added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Rice (6-2) was led by Jermaine Sanders' 17 points.
