The semifinal battle will take place on Sunday March 15, 2009 at St. John's University. In the first game John F. Kennedy HS will represent the Bronx against Brooklyn's Thomas Jefferson HS. The second game will feature two Brooklyn, NY teams. In a 2008 championship rematch game, Boys & Girls HS will face off against Abraham Lincoln HS
For the first time, the semifinal games will be broadcasted Live over the Internet on the High School Basketball Network's Premium Channel www.PSAL.TV
At 3:00pm EST on Sunday, in the first live webcast, the Thomas Jefferson Orange Wave will play the J.F.K. Knights. The Orange Wave feature a high powered offense from shooting guard Keith Spellman and combo guard David Coley. They also possess a dominant inside presence from Fordham-bound Joel "Air Jamaica" Wright. Running the show for Jefferson is the powerful sophomore point guard Davontay Grace.
The Kennedy Knights are a nationally ranked team that can shoot lights out. With the lightning fast point guard tandem of Naquan Pierce and senior Jeffery Arzu, the Knights have an abundance of scoring options. While Pierce is adept from both inside as well as from the perimeter, Arzu seems to penetrate and score or kick at will. Shooting guards Jeffrey Short and Ross Vizciano round out their scoring option from long range. In the paint, Kennedy has Shea Spence, a very talented 6-foot-6 senior forward/center. As the team enforcer, Spencer is a shot blocker who runs the floor well.
The second webcasted game will be at 5pm EST between the nationally ranked Lincoln Railsplitters and the Boys & Girls Kangaroos. Last year, at Madison Square Garden, the Railsplitters totally obliterated the Kangaroos in the championship game. Lincoln's all-star trio of Lance Stephenson, Maryland-bound James Padgett and St. Francis-bound Darwin "Budha" Ellis are seeking to obtain the elusive forth championship and need to get past the Kangaroos on Sunday to have that opportunity.
While not facing Lincoln in a championship game, Boys & Girls is 1-1 against the Railsplitters in regular season play and would love to be a spoiler. The Kangaroos have heavy artillery with highly sought after shooting guards Mike Taylor and Lamount Samuell. In addition, the Kangaroos have a strong inside presence with Tyler Young and Leroy Isler and an impressive combo guard in Anton Dickerson.
These two semifinal games may be the most competitive games of the year as two team will emerge on top to play in the championship game of the PSAL. Can make it to the game? No problem. You can see both games LIVE for a Special Limited Time Offer. Go to www.PSAL.TV and find out how.
