Week eight has been a whirlwind as top teams are starting to face off against other top teams. As the cream slowly rises to the top, let's look at the updated NYCHoops.net Top Ten Teams.

1. Abraham Lincoln (Brooklyn PSAL/Win-Loss: 17 – 2) -The Railsplitters have become somewhat of a juggernaut, remaining in the number one spot for weeks with inspired play from Donald Flores ‘17. On paper, last week, Lincoln should’ve beaten Paul Robeson and Westinghouse easily but they only won both games by a total of 6 points total. Dwayne “Tiny” Morton’s squad has only one game this week against Bedford Academy.

2. Archbishop Molloy (Queens CHSAA/Win-Loss: 12 – 5) – Last week, the Stanners cut through unranked Xaverian and St. Francis Prep like butter, Cole Anthony ‘19 and Moses Brown ‘18 raised the bar and drop kicked a high-quality Bishop Loughlin by 21 points. Moving up one spot, Coach Mike McCleary’s team will have challenges this week as they face St. Raymond and Holy Cross.

3. Bishop Loughlin (Brooklyn CHSAA/Win-Loss: 12 – 4) – The Lions were on a roll as they edged Christ the King and battered Holy Cross but then they ran into a buzz saw in Molloy ending their 2-game winning streak. Dropping one spot, Coach Ed Gonzalez will need to help Markquis Nowell ‘18 and Cincinnati-bound Keith Williams ‘17 lick their wounds as they prepare to face Xaverian and L.I. Lutheran this week.

4. Christ the King (Queens CHSAA/Win-Loss: 11 – 6) – It was a good week for the Royals who moved up two spots as Coach Joe Arbitello’s crew smashed St. Francis Prep, Cardinal Hayes and Xaverian with Jose Alvarado ‘17 playing on another level. The Georgia Tech point guard will quite simply need to keep it up as CK will play Holy Cross before battling Mt. Vernon in the SNY Invitational.

5. St. Raymond (Bronx CHSAA/Win-Loss: 10 – 6) – It was a shaky week for the Ravens who loss to unranked Thomas Jefferson before getting only a 12-point win against St. Francis Prep. Falling one spot in the rankings, Coach Jorge Lopez will need to get Minnesota-bound Isaiah Washington ‘17 and his team back on track quickly as they try to recuperate from the loss of Dallas Watson ‘18 with a season ending injury. Up next? #2 ranked Archbishop Molloy followed by national power St. Anthony (NJ) in the SNY Invitational.

6. Cardinal Hayes (Bronx CHSAA/Win-Loss: 14 – 5) – A good overall record plus a quality win against Mt. Saint Michael and an easy win against St. Mary’s pushes the Cardinals up a spot even after losing to a highly-ranked Christ the King squad last week. Coach Joe Lods will need to get Joe Toussaint ’19 and his team ready to match wits with Iona Prep this week.

7. Queens H.S. of Teaching (Queens PSAL/Win-Loss: 17 – 2) – The Tigers recovered nicely after their loss to L.I. Lutheran. Last week Coach Mike Shelton’s team busted up Beach Channel then took out rival Springfield Gardens led by C.J. Kelly ‘17. Moving up a spot in the rankings, Q.H.S.T. get a BYE this week with no games scheduled.

8. Mt. Saint Michael (Bronx CHSAA/Win-Loss: 11 – 6) – Someone tied a cement block around the leg of the Mountaineers who dropped 3 spots after losing two games back-to-back to Hayes and Iona Prep. The road doesn’t get any easier as Mount is slated to play Archbishop Stepinac followed by Monsignor Scanlan this week.

9. H.S. for Construction (Queens PSAL/Win-Loss: 13 -3) – It was a tough call but the Red Hawks get the call from the bullpen making its first entrance into the top ten. Finishing out the week with two wins along with a good overall record drops Construction into the #9 spot. Coach Cory Semper’s team will be tested this week when they play a ranked Baldwin team after playing un-ranked Wadleigh

10. Wings Academy (Bronx PSAL/Win-Loss: 12 – 4) – Wings is at a crossroads with all their losses coming against ranked teams. Last week was more of the same as they beat Truman and Curtis but lost to L.I. Lutheran. Falling one spot, Coach Billy Turnage should get an easy win this week against unranked Thurgood Marshall Academy.

On The Bubble:

John Bowne (Queens PSAL “AA”) Win-Loss 13 - 5
