Girls: Player Watch - Dyaisha Fair

Last season in New York State there were 4 freshmen to make Class "AA" All-New York State team. 3 of the 4 came from the state champions in Ossining H.S. while the other was a dynamic 5'5" playmaking guard in Dyaisha Fair (Edison Tech '19).

A lightning quick guard who was able to time and time again dominate the competition in Section 5 with her driving ability, Fair thrived all summer and capped that off with a strong performance at the BCANY Summer Hoops Festival.

Now concentrated in working on her game in the gym, Fair is looking to better her play from last year and have Edison Tech in contention for a sectional title as she is now starting to draw the attention of numerous college programs.

While just a freshman this past season and playing her first season of varsity basketball Fair knew that she was ready for whatever was thrown at her. She had been dominating on every level she had played, and because of what she had learned from everyone who has been a part of her basketball life she knew she was ready for the varsity level challenge.

"It started with me being a little younger than everyone else but I took what everyone had taught me and I just wasn't afraid of the challenge," Fair said. "I am used to playing with guys so playing against girls who might be older than me wasn't something I was intimidated by."

That was a good thing because Edison Tech needed her, and needed her from the get go. Right from the start she was instilled as the starting floor general, a position that comes with a lot of responsibilities, but Fair handled them with calmness beyond her years as she became not just the best freshman in the Section 5 region, but a case easily was made that she was the best point guard right out of the gate as well.

A big reason for her success was her speed and Fair says that her ability to break down defenses was a driving force for her impressive freshman season.

"I like to use my speed to take on defenses. I usually just take what the defense gives me, but I know that I can get by any defender that's on me as well which really played to my advantage last year," Fair explained.

Modeling her game, she says after Kyrie Irving, Fair took her game to a higher level this summer adding in a more consistent jump shot which allowed her to start drawing interest from college coaches even though just a rising sophomore.

Her coaches have told her that numerous upstate programs such as St. Bonaventure, Canisius, Buffalo, and Niagara have already reached out about her, and this just could be the beginning of something rather big for a player poised to be one of New York's best when all is said and done.

Heading into her sophomore season now meant more pressure on her as she is now well known as one of her areas top talents, and while that might be tough for some, Fair is looking forward to getting back on the floor, she off her improved game, and doing all she can to lead Edison Tech to a deep playoff run.

"I am looking forward to it. I am never content out there and am always working hard on my game and doing what I can for my team," Fair stated. "The future is exciting but until it actually gets here I have to keep working and do all I can not just for me, but my team as well."
