End of Summer Classic Recaps

READING, PA - Hoop Group held their End of the Summer Classic basketball tournament at Albright College PA.

On Sunday, 41 teams from the Tri-State area, Pennsylvania, and Maryland all came out to compete in this one-day tournament.

For the players, it was an opportunity to make a name, keep a name, or make one final impression. The result? An entire day filled with competitive basketball from start to finish. Here's a brief recap of some of the days happenings:

In one of the first games, NYC Heights White took on Team NJABC in the 16-and-under bracket. This game proved to be a nail biter as a pair of missed free throws by Team NJABC late allowed NYC Heights White to escape with a 44-42 victory. Heights guard Raz Council led all scorers with 19 points, including some clutch baskets down the stretch. Tyler Kohl had 15 points to lead Team NJABC.

The BC Eagles and NYC Shooting Stars did battle in the 17-and-under bracket. This New York vs. New York game also went down to the wire as the NYC Shooting Stars came away with a 59-54 win. Despite the obvious height advantage, the Shooting Stars definitely had their issues with the Eagles.

Though they protected the inside, the Shooting Stars had a hard time defending the perimeter, as the Eagles nailed 5 three-pointers, keeping the game close throughout. But Boys & Girls graduate Malik Nichols was a little too much for the Eagles, finishing up with 18 points, 12 of which came in the 1st half.

New Heights NYC Blue's 17-and-under squad had themselves a walk in the park against the PA Warriors. A balanced scoring attack enabled New Heights to cruise 45-23 victory. This low scoring affair saw no one score over double figures as Tyquan Goodlett led everyone with just 8 points. They'd go on to face the New Jersey Playaz Club in the championship game.

As for the Playaz Club, they had themselves an easy first two rounds of play. In round one, they crushed the Connecticut Select 73-55, after watching a 13 point halftime lead trimmed to 7. They also managed the blowout despite only 8 points from their star player Kyle Anderson, Jr. Savon Goodman picked up the slack though, leading New Jersey with 19 points, 10 in the first half.

Sharpshooting Xavier-bound Myles Davis also chipped in with 15 points, including 4 threes. Their second game had similar results, as they walked over the Baltimore Elite 79-52. Anderson woke up in this game, leading the way with 17 points.
