It was a bit surprising to see Richmond Hill come out in full force and succeed against perennial powerhouse squad Benjamin Cardozo.

However, shock soon turned into relief for the Judges in the second half as the Bayside, N.Y. team locked up on defense, slowed the momentum of Richmond and, ultimately, shut them down.
Despite trailing Richmond 24-18 at halftime, Cardozo toppled Richmond and notched a come-from-behind victory 53-39 at the Beacon Summer Tournament on Thursday.
Although Dozo did lead early in the first half (4-0), Richmond bruised its way out of the deficit and extended its advantage.
Richmond's Sayquan Chambers (13 points) led his squad in the primary stanza, becoming the do-it-all guy for his teammates but a nightmare for the Judges.
With the clock under the midway mark of the 20-minute period, Richmond led 16-7 after Chambers sank a pair at the charity stripe.
Despite Richmond's relentlessness off the glass and in transition, Cardozo crept up with a 9-1 run. Following a jumper by rising sophomore Jermaine Lawrence, Cardozo only trailed by one-point, 17-16, with about two minutes remaining before the break.
Still, Richmond secured a 24-18 halftime advantage.
In this tale of two halves, the Judges had a star of its own in rising sophomore Jermaine Lawrence. The 6-foot-8 forward netted 19 points in the second half, en route to his 22-point performance.
Everything that Richmond had done to scoot ahead of Cardozo had disappeared as the squad showed signs of fatigue.
Instead, at about the 15:40 mark of the second half, Dozo went on a small run to take the lead for the first time since the opening minutes of the first half.
The Judges later extended its advantage to as much as 13 points, 52-39, on a deflection and dunk by Lawrence in the game's final seconds.
