Tru-Ballaz Pre-HS Classic Monday

BRONX, NY - The Tru-Ballaz Pre-HS Classic is another of the top tournaments that gives a glimpse at what the upcoming NYC high school season will look like.

On Monday, NYCHoops.net was at Frederic Douglass Academy III to check out the action as four public schools faced off.
Wings Academy runs over W.H.E.E.L.S., 71-67
Foday Sankaray and point guard Desure Buie powered Wings Academy in the first quarter giving them a 23-17 first quarter lead. 6'7" Tyshawn Myles cut that lead to 4pts with a nice spin move in the post and with 5:04, Emile Lewis hit a jumper which pulled W.H.E.E.L.S. to within one.
W.H.E.E.L.S. turnovers would put Wings back in the driver's seat by 5 but they would fight back once again. With 2:18, a putback by Lewis tied the game at 30. A steal by Eulogio Medina and a defensive stand by Myles and W.H.E.E.L.S. was in front.
Wings would regain the lead with 1:10 and with 5.8 seconds left in the half, Buie would extend that lead to 36-33. Wings hope to take a three point lead and the momentum into the locker room but a buzzer beater by Myles would leave W.H.E.E.L.S. only down 36-35 at the midway point.
The lead changed hands as Myles began to do damage inside. 4:07 remaining in the third and W.H.E.E.L.S. was ahead 46-41.
Wings Academy was losing the war on the boards and Myles presence inside began to relegate them to perimeter shot attempts.
After a timeout, Wings made a run, closing the gap to 1 with under a minute but W.H.E.E.L.S. held serve and led by one to start the fourth quarter.
Eddy Polanco drained a trey and with 6:28, W.H.E.E.L.S. was up 4. Buie countered with a 3-ball and with 5:06, Randy Corporan put Wings back in front with a matching trifecta.
Down 58-57, Lewis scored in transition putting W.H.E.E.L.S. back up. The lead changed and with 3:42 the game was knotted at 62.
Wings changed their tactic and started to gain momentum and with 2:51 led 65-62 as big man Ray Pender became aggressive on the boards.
Down 5 with under a minute, W.H.E.E.L.S. blinked, became rushed and firing and missing from the arc.. Wings would hold in to win by 4.
Sankaray led Wings Academy with a game high 25 points. Buie added 15 points. Myles led W.H.E.E.L.S. with 21 points. Polanco contributed 17
Thurgood Marshall Swarms Eagle Academy, 58-35
Thurgood Marshall Academy led quickly but Eagle Academy attacked the glass from the tip off and Shane Neal put them ahead 4-2 early. TMA stayed composed and regained their lead w/4:30.
TMA's Daquan Washington continuously applied pressure with 16 first half points and with 1:59 left in the half, Eagle had dug themselves a 25-12 hole.
Down 27-19 at the half, Eagle made a run in the third and Neal cuts TMAs lead to 4 points but a 6-0 TMA run increased their advantage to 10 at the 2:30 mark of the quarter.
TMA leads 37-29 to begin the fourth quarter but steals allowed them to increase that lead to 17 points with 2:03 left to play. Thurgood Marshall did not let up en route to a 22 point victory.
Washington led Thurgood Marshall Academy with 23 points with Leon White adding 18 points. Neal was the high man for Eagle Academy with 9 points.
