The Unsung Hero

Often times it is forgotten that there is no "I" in team. Many times a player coming off the bench can and does make or break a team's success.
Such is the case with Devonte Cutler who is described by Boys & Girl High School assistant coach Elmer Anderson as, "A spark plug off the bench."

Cutler, a 6-foot-0 senior point guard, is the Boys & Girls Kangaroo's defensive specialist and one of the best rebounding guards in the city according to Anderson.
Cutler's defining moment came last year when, down by 20 points to the Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters with three minutes left in the third quarter, the senior came in and was an integral part of Boys & Girls comeback win. Cutler ran the team and effectively distributed the ball to the Kangaroo scorers, Brandon Romain and Patrick Jackson. In addition, Cutler or "DJ" as he is known, was able to knock down the wide open jumper.
Anderson says, "Devonte has good lateral quickness on defense and doesn't fall for the cross over." Anderson has high expectations of his unsung hero saying, "Sometimes he thinks he has to score to be effective. We need him be able to run the team when he's in the game and continue to get the ball to the scorers."
Cutlers efforts are starting to get him noticed, according to Anderson. "He has interest from Townsend, Ohio as well as other NEC school. Another thing is that Devonte is already an academic qualifier," says Anderson.
