The New Rochelle Huguenots, who put NYC Class AA basketball on notice, stumbled in the semi-championship round, losing to Bishop Kearney, 45-39.
After defeating Section 11's Northport, 60-46 on Saturday, the Huguenots would now face their biggest challenge, Section 5's Bishop Kearney for the state title. This would mark New Rochelle's second appearance in a final round since 2005.
The Bishop Kearney Kings came to Sunday's showdown with the fire power of Syracuse-bound Chinonso Obokoh and super sophomore Thomas Bryant. The Kings' pair would end New Rochelle's dream wave as the Kings took an early, 29-18, lead into the half.
The Kings held off the Huguenots, ultimately to advance taking the New York State Championship crown.
Bishop Kearney MVP Bryant finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Obokoh added 13 rebounds and eight blocks.
The Huguenots now most famous combo Joe Clarke led his team with 26 points and 10 rebounds while Khalil Edney, who hit the miracle shot to beat Mt. Vernon, contributed 10 rebounds.
