The Manhattan Jaspers recently got a steal in the commitment of highly touted NYC guard Saquan Singleton ‘17. Singleton is a 6’5" playmaker who’s extremely comfortable at either guard spot and should be ready to contribute right away to the Jaspers. “I’m a tall guard that can see the court,” He says. “I have great vision which helps me make plays, I’m also a strong finisher at the rim.” Singleton’s skills separate him from other players at his position and make him a talent to look out for in the MAAC conference.

With offers from Stony Brook, Seton Hall, LIU and Albany, Singleton decided to stay home and pick Coach [Steve] Masiello and Manhattan, stating: ‘’I like the system there, I really liked the school environment, and Coach Masiello showed me love.”

Singleton also stated that it was close to his family which played a vital role in his decision. As to what he will bring to coach Masiello’s team next season he responded: ’’Scoring, assist and a leader on and off the court.’’

Although he was a 1,000 point scorer at Monsignor Scanlan high school, Singleton keeps it humble, and still feels like he has a ways to go with his overall game. “I still have to work on getting stronger and work on getting my jumpshot better’’, He states. As far as his expectations next year, Singleton replied: ‘’I would like to have a brotherhood with my teammates, form a close bond together, and with that bond hopefully we will win together.’’

With a 10-22 overall record last season for the Jaspers, Singleton’s scoring, assist and leadership is definitely what the Jaspers will need. If Singleton plays the way everyone knows he could, the smooth, playmaking guard known as “Sae it ain’t so”, can surely help change the program and have the Draddy Gymnasium rocking next season.
