Queens wins WCC championship
JAMAICA, NY - The Boys championship game for the Wheelchair Charities Classic was full of energy from the beginning.

The final matched Brooklyn vs. Queens, and both teams competed like they really wanted to be the ones to have bragging rights. The game was close, but two players who are ranked nationally sparked the Queens team to a runaway victory. They took control in the third quarter and cruised to a 124-102 victory over Brooklyn.
Jordan Washington, out of Pathways High School, got things going when he came onto the floor during the second 5 minute stretch of the game. The game was timed at four 10 minute quarters, and every five minutes a new set of five was to substitute into the game. This is to ensure that every kid gets a decent amount of playing time.
Washington, who is ranked #84 in the country, was a defensive monster in the beginning, playing with extra energy. The 6-8 junior forward emphatically blocked at least three shots in the paint when Brooklyn players tried to drive. He capped off his impressive 5 minute showing with a steal and then dribbling the length of the court straight to the basket for a tough score and free throw.
Next, it was Omar Calhoun's turn. Calhoun scored a team high 22 points and is already signed to play at UConn next season. The 6-4 Christ the King guard is the #10 ranked shooting guard in the nation. He showed why in the game, making three treys in the second quarter alone. Calhoun also dominated in the third quarter when the game was actually still a contest. He kept finishing athletic drives to the basket, taking contact and also knocking down the free throw. His efforts earned him the game MVP honors, along with Brooklyn's Travis Charles. Charles, a 6-6 forward from Lincoln, scored a game high 23 points.
Lebrent Walker was responsible for breaking open the game after the half. Walker put on the pressure and the 6-2 guard from Our Savior New American kept finding himself at the free throw line. Nobody from Brooklyn could contain Walker (11 points) as he helped Queens take control of the game. They even forced Brooklyn to call a time out when Queens jumped out to a 72-59 lead to try and slow the game down, but it didn't work. That was when Calhoun started to dominate.
Rashad Andrews from Boys & Girls scored 19 points for Brooklyn, while his high school teammate Tyliek Kimbrough added 17. Nazai Stokes from Jefferson knocked down a few pull-up jumpers and finished with 14 for the losing team.
Marquis Moore from Holy Cross and Ryan Yearwood from Cardozo each had 12 points for the Queens squad.
