The 2023–24 season is underway as gameplay has officially started with the kickoff of the high school basketball year. We have been covering the PSAL a lot lately and have a massive update about one of the top programs in the league. This league’s potential player of the year, 6’8” F Kevin Kearney (South Shore HS, NY ‘24) made an announcement just an hour ago that he will be committing to St. Joseph's University.

The forward announced on instagram, "It’s been a long journey to reach this milestone ! Yet my story is just beginning. I would like to thank God, my parents, my brothers and sisters and my entire family for always being supportive and with me every step of the way. I would also like to thank anyone who has coached me, trained me and aided me to this point. Thank you to all my teammates as well, this is a team sport and without you guys this doesn’t happen. I want to give a special thank you to Coach smoke, Coach ice and the south shore basketball program. Lastly I would like to thank all of the schools who took the time out to recruit me and my family... I sincerely appreciate each and every single individuals efforts. I am extremely excited to announce I will be committing / continuing my academic and athletic career at #HawkHill, Saint Joseph’s University. “The Hawk Will NEVER die. ”Thank you for the continued love and support ! Kevin Kearney #HawkHill #THWND"

Kearney has been a developing hidden gem in the Vikings program for years. He waited his turn and really started breaking out last season plus then took that momentum into a huge spring. The D1 programs started to take notice that Kearney was a serious prospect in 2024 and some folks are even seeing potential for him to play even beyond the college level.

This impressive senior can score from all three levels, has guard skills, great length, elite athleticism and is a winner. He’s a tremendous kid off the floor, great teammate, humble, never a problem and could be a wonderful candidate for NIL deals. We love the way he consistently has a positive effect on the game, his shot blocking, his quiet toughness, as well as the incredible versatility he brings on both ends.

This recruiting world is a fascinating one as we will admit we have known about this commitment for some time. A few very close sources told us that after a key visit to St. Joes, plus having a great relationship with the coaches that Kearney seemed to be a lock to commit there. The Hawks have two guards already signed in their 2024 recruiting class but in our opinion, Kearney will be their crown jewel. As we believe they will build around him. This is a tremendous pickup for the A10 squad. He should be able to contribute to their front court right away. We do agree with some of the scouts that he could end up getting a shot at the league if he can hit the ground running next season.
