NEW YORK, NY – One of the top teams in New Jersey and the eventual Tournament champion runner-up went up against an up and coming New York team on Saturday during 17U pool play segment at the Rumble in the Bronx. By the end of the game, Basketball City was abuzz as Team NYC upset the NJ Playaz Club Remix, 63-59

The Playaz jump out front early as Team NYC had its hands full trying to contain Marcellus Earlington (Don Bosco ’18). With six minutes to play in the opening half, the squad from Long Island, NY found themselves down by 10 points.

Team NYC through tenacious defense, a perimeter attack from Brandon Jacobs (L.I. Lutheran HS ’17) and aggressiveness inside from 6’4” Bol Bak (Wadleigh HS ’17) were able to knot the game at 29 by halftime. The Playaz found themselves backpedaling into the second half as the momentum had shifted to the Big Apple.

At the top of the second half, Team NYC finally took its first lead and back-to-back buckets by Jacobs gave them a 38-32 advantage with 13:10 left in regulation but the Playaz would not go quietly. With 4:03 on the clock, they regained the lead but Team NYC countered with a concerted attack.

As guard Danny Charlton (Springfield Gardens ’16) clamped down defensively, Jacobs spearheaded the team’s offense but the Playaz maintained a 2-point lead. That is until Jacobs drained a clutch three-ball and Bak pilfered the rock with 15.1 seconds remaining to secure the win.

Jacobs, the team’s primary point guard, led Team NYC with 24 points and numerous assists. Bak added 17 points. Earlington was high man for the Playaz Club with a game high 30 points.
