Panthers put a sleeper hold on GVA

In a game that was over before it began. A game where the most exciting moment came when the NYCHoops #1 ranked Panthers almost imitated the Detroit Pistons vs. Philly.
The Panthers would toy with the Greg Vaughn All-Stars ultimately defeating them by a score of 91 - 77

After an opening bucket by the Greg Vaughn All-Stars (1-1) in Wednesday second game at the iS8, the Panthers (1-0) blazed on the Hillcrest team scoring 7 quick points.
When the blazed died down, however, the score was only 10-8 with all the missed baskets by both teams.
GVA's bigs kept the game tight by securing offensive boards and make Panther shots difficult. A tough move by Kevin Parrom followed by another by Omari Lawrence would unfortunately for GVA counter the good work inside by their big man Dornell Chavis.
Sophomore guard Sterling Gibbs, while making some rookie mistakes, was an effective point guard as well as being able to get to the line through penetrating Greg Vaughns defense. As the Panthers began to get in sync they would end the first quarter pulling up by 11.
Travis Nichols would pick up three early fouls for the Greg Vaughn All-stars but would however convert on the offensive end.
A slashing drive to the bucket by Mike Poole followed by a Lawrence dunk off a turnover would push the Panther lead to 17 early in the second.
The Panther lead would explode to 22 with 1:17 left in the first half which would mercifully end 51-27.
The third quarter became playtime for NYCHoops #1 ranked team which allowed the GV All-stars to inch to within an actual prayer of winning.
Porous defense by the Panthers would suddenly diminish the Panther lead to 14 halfway through the fourth as Travis Nichols scored on a runner.
Gibbs would nail a midrange basket followed by a strong move to the basket by Lawrence but Chavis would counter with a drive.
Lawrence would power in yet again pushing the lead back to 19 with 3:30 left as the Panthers would sub out to the younger players.
The plug was finally pulled on this one at the buzzer. Final score 91-77
The Panthers had a balanced scoring attack as Omari Lawrence was the high scorer with 25pts with Parrom adding 21 points and Mike Poole of St. Anthony's in NJ knocking down 18pts.
Travis Nichols put down 26 points in a losing effort for the Greg Vaughn All-stars.
