An official with Seton Hall University said one of the men's basketball team's senior guards was shot and wounded on Saturday night during an apparent robbery attempt in New York City.
The player, Jeremy Hazell, was treated at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital and released Sunday. According to Matt Sweeney, a university spokesman, Hazell was shot "under his right arm" in Harlem, where his family lives.
He was kept overnight at the hospital as a precaution. The injury was not life-threatening.
Hazell, who was the club's top scorer through three games, has been sidelined since breaking his wrist in November. He had surgery to repair the break on Dec. 2.
The New York police would not provide any additional details of the shooting.
